The rumblings inside the National Aeronautics and Space Administration are beginning to get a whole lot louder, as it appears NASA is set to announce they have discovered carbon on Mars. Carbon forms the key component for all known naturally occurring life on Earth and thus the discovery of carbon on Mars would based on our current understanding of carbon based-life mean that Mars was at one time in the past few billion year inhabited by something living. While the discovery of carbon wouldn't rule out that intelligent life once lived on Mars, it wouldn't guarantee it either. It is most likely that any Martian inhabitants were nothing more than single celled algae. Either way if NASA makes the expected "We Are Note Alone" announcement, all of our lives will have changed.
